2017: The Beginning - NSF SBIR Award
Founder Lokesh Dani, Ph.D. received a National Science Foundation Small Business Innovation Research grant to study how work evolves through skills and tasks. This research explored a fundamental question: How do experts make decisions, and can we capture those patterns? The NSF award funded the creation of Xopolis Inc., focused on building ontologies of human expertise.
2023: First Breakthrough - ProtoBots.ai
Lokesh launched ProtoBots.ai in May 2023—before OpenAI released GPTs, before "agentic AI" became trendy. ProtoBots demonstrated that AI could extract and replicate expert decision-making patterns for business advisors. This first-mover innovation validated the core technology: AI can capture HOW humans think, not just WHAT they know.
2025: Bringing It to Education - HeuriSight
Lokesh recognized that the same technology solving expertise transfer in business could transform education. Traditional assessment treats learning as a black box—work goes in, grades come out.
